In a one sided affair, Michael Katsidis (30-6, 24 KO’s) won a unanimous bout against his British nemesis, Graham “The Duke Of” Earl (26-5, 12 KO’s) in a lightweight boxing title event for the vacant WBU belt. The match took place at the Convention Centre Toowoomba in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia.

Judges scored the bout 120-108, 120-109, 119-109 in Katsidis’ favor. Although this was Katsidis’ second win over Earl (the first one was in 2007 in London), neither Katsidis nor Earl fought like elite boxing champions. It was a very cautiously fought boxing event and nowhere near the barn burner that their 2007 throwdown was. The fans in Australia must have been happy to see their countryman win but disappointed to see the tame nature of the boxing title scrap. Regardless of their feelings towards the fight, Michael Katsidis vs Graham Earl 2 was far from the hot tickets that Australians expected when spending their hard earned money on the event.

Combat sports tend to show their destructive boxers mellow out in their later years so this may be the case with Katsidis and Earl. Were their many battles in the ring a reason to tone things down? If you saw the fight, what did you think? Can either man compete against the likes of Yuriorkis Gamboa or Terence Crawford?
