One of the greatest middleweights of all time, the current boogeyman in boxing, Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33 KO’s) will be defending his multiple belts tonight against his toughest test to date, Daniel Jacobs. Jacobs (32-1, 29 KO’s), has been in the boxing game for a long time and has been extremely overlooked when it comes to talent and potential in the sport of boxing. Tonight, that’s about to change.

We believe that tonight will be a historic moment on HBO pay per view boxing (live from Madison Square Garden in NYC), where Daniel Jacobs will have the opportunity to face the man known as Triple G for the IBF, WBC, and WBA world middleweight titles. Actually, since Daniel Jacobs refused to be weighed today, he lost his opportunity to win the IBF world middleweight boxing title. But he can still secure the other two belts if he wins tonight.

When a solid welterweight, Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KO’s), moved up two weight divisions and put his undefeated record on the line against GGG on September 10, 2016, he was beaten and battered but he held his own in the early rounds of the fight. He landed more clean, effective shots on Gennady than anyone that we could think of. Despite the fact that David Lemieux was the strongest puncher that GGG had ever faced, it was the movement, footwork, defense, and combinations that Brook used that allowed him tremendous success against the Kazakh warrior. But as the time went on, it was the size and power of Golovkin that took a toll on Kell. GGG broke Brook’s orbital bone and the fight was ultimately stopped in round 5 when Brook’s corner threw in the towel.

Size won’t be in Golovkin’s favor tonight, though.

Daniel Jacobs, is significantly taller, bigger, and most likely stronger than Golovkin. Unlike David Lemieux, Jacobs uses a lot of movement and is extremely fast for a man his size. Even though the champ has taken solid shots from former opponents, he’s never faced a threat like Daniel Jacobs. Daniel is a man who faced cancer and beat it. He’s got the never give up attitude that few fighters have. Sure, many do have it but when it comes to overcoming just about anything because losing is simply not an option and winning will change your life tremendously, Daniel Jacobs knows that he’s got the opportunity of a lifetime here. A once in a lifetime opportunity. He knows that this fight is a Mike Tyson vs Buster Douglas fight of today. Jacobs knows that a win would open up the doors to millions of dollars for him and his lovely family. A loss would put him back to mid-card status and render him a solid contender but nothing more.

The Canelo Alvarez fight is the one that everyone wants Golovkin to take. It’s not Gennady’s fault. Anyone that follows boxing knows that Oscar De La Hoya does not want his top stud (Canelo Alvarez) to face GGG. We do believe that Canelo genuinely wants to test himself against Triple G but the outcome of that fight would more than likely be a highlight reel knockout win for Golovkin. For that very reason, brilliant promoter, Oscar De La Hoya is trying to avoid that fight altogether.

Sports betting has Golovkin as a huge favorite to win tonight’s main event. No one is giving Daniel a chance to win. We actually believe that Daniel Jacobs and his trainers have studied the Kell Brook fight against Golovkin and they’re preparing traps to set tonight. It will more than likely be a right out of the gate approach by Jacobs to win round 1 with a lot of combinations and counterpunches. That will probably be a prelude to the rest of the fight except that Jacobs will probably show footwork that no one in the middleweight division has shown. Abel Sanchez, Golovkin’s trainer, will more than likely not know what advise to his man once he sees Jacobs landing flush shots. It will be the movement, counterpunching, and powerful combinations that will allow Daniel Jacobs to drop and stop Gennady Golovkin at the Garden tonight. We expect the world to be stunned.

But anything is possible in combat sports.

For tonight’s main event, we predict a huge upset. Daniel Jacobs will more than likely stun the world and stop Gennady Golovkin at some point in the middle of the fight.

Does anyone else out there agree? Disagree? Please comment below as we would love to discuss this some more with our fans and followers.

In a match that started with Vasyl Lomachenko as a 9:1 favorite in some sports betting sites, the Ukrainian slugger didn’t disappoint his fans in attendance and around the world via HBO boxing telecast. Lomachenko (7-1, 4KO’s) battered the previously undefeated Nicholas Walters (26-1-1, 21 KO’s) for 6 rounds until Nicholas had had enough and quit right before the start of round 7. It was disappointing to say the least since the beating that Walters took didn’t warrant quitting. The crowd agreed with this assessment and loudly booed when Walters was being interviewed by HBO’s Max Kellerman.

But to Walters’ credit, he was very classy in defeat and openly admitted that his 343 days of inactivity affected his performance in the ring tremendously. The man who easily dismantled Nonito Donaire and knocked him out in October 2014 was either long gone or still no match for Vasyl.

The first round started out with both men feeling each other out. Lomachenko might have won the first round by a small margin but from round 2 onward, Lomachenko used a lot of intelligent movement to set up his right jabs and furious combinations. Another thing that Vasyl did was make his opponent miss a lot of shots and then counter him as he reset to his stance. By the time the 5th round started, it was evident that Lomachenko was going for a knockdown and or knockout. The most surprising thing was Walters giving away that special “0” so easily by not putting up a fight after round 6 and suddenly quitting.

Regardless of our opinion, Nicholas Walters was a real deal fighter who would have tested anyone in the ring and the fact that Lomachenko blew right through him is astounding. Vasyl is undoubtedly one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world right now.

After the fight, Max Kellerman had asked Lomachenko who he would like to fight next and the Ukrainian stated that the next man that he would like to face would be Francisco Vargas. Although that fight would most likely be more entertaining that this fight, it would be another easy win for Vasyl.

Perhaps Bob Arum can set up a rematch between Orlando Salido and Vasyl Lomachenko so that the latter can avenge his only defeat? Wouldn’t that make for a more marketable fight?

TRENDING FIGHTERS: Terrence Crawford, Nicholas Walters, Orlando Salido, Nonito Donaire

Sergey Kovalev, the best light heavyweight fighter today, lost his titles in another Las Vegas robbery decision via unanimous scores of 114-113. Referee, Robert Byrd, was an accomplice to the crime since he didn’t do what he was paid to do: call the fight down the middle and warn for illegal holding or any other illegal tactics.

We have covered Andre Ward’s dirty fighting tactics in many other articles. If illegal holding and sometimes headbutting is allowed, then how can any boxer win a fight? Isn’t it the referee’s job to call a fighter for holding and grabbing? In Ward’s fight against Mikkel Kessler, Ward held Kessler 88 times! That’s right: 88 times!! The only warnings issued were to Kessler. That fight took place in Oakland, California, Ward’s home town. There was obviously home cooking going on there. But this fight was supposed to be on neutral ground but that’s clearly not the case.

The fans booed the decision loudly. Kovalev dropped Ward in the second round with a clean, straight right hand to Ward’s nose. He pummeled the American against the ropes after Ward made the 10 count.

Sergey clearly won 8 rounds tonight, with the second round being a 10-8 round in his favor after that solid knockdown. Even USA Today scored the fight for Kovalev, Sherdog MMA scored it for Kovalev, as well.

This was a disgusting robbery that needs to be examined more carefully. Kathy Duva, Sergey Kovalev’s promoter, will exercise the rematch clause. Andre Ward agreed to a rematch but was non-commital on specifics.

We think the fair thing to do would be to order a rematch in Russia, in Sergey’s home country. Let’s see if Ward is able to pull out the decision there. If you are crying foul over this idea, then consider what Kovalev did for this title defense. We believe that you have to beat the champion clearly to win his titles. That was not what happened in this fight, yet the American was handed the victory on a silver platter.

R-O-B-B-E-R-Y!!!!!!!!!!

We would love to hear your feedback about this fight. How did you score it? Would you agree that this was another boxing screw job?

Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao scored a unanimous decision victory over the once beaten Jessie Vargas at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas before 16,000 plus fans. Two judges scored the fight 118-109, which sounds about right, and one judge inexplicably scored it 114-113 for Manny. That 114-113 score had to have been the most concerning part of the evening!

Although Pac Man dropped Vargas with a clean, straight left to the chin in round 2, he was the kind-hearted nice guy that no longer goes in for the kill. So a fight where the Manny Pacquiao from 2009 or 2010 would have finished any man in devastating fashion as quickly as possible, lasted 12 lop-sided rounds. Pacquiao landed 147 of 409 total punches with rabid fans in attendance. Others in attendance were none other than Floyd “Money” Mayweather, jr and Terrence Crawford.

Regardless of what anyone says, we believe that a rematch between Mayweather and Pacquiao would still generate more buys than any pay per view in boxing since their last fight. But is Pacquiao a man who can really compete at an elite level?

Manny is an excellent boxer who would still beat almost any welterweight fighter out there but the man is a senator in the Phillipines and he trained in his spare time for this fight. Sure, that was enough for him to beat Jessie Vargas but a full training camp would be in order for him to rematch Floyd and certainly to take on the future of boxing, Terrence Crawford. And days away from his 38th birthday, Pacquiao should face opponents that he has a good chance of beating. Guys like Amir Khan, Kell Brook, and Canelo Alvarez would be good stylistic fights for Manny Pacquiao.

Terrence Crawford, Kieth Thurman, Errol Spence, and Danny Garcia are nightmare match ups for the Filipino icon. Even Freddie Roach would agree. There is a reason why Floyd has not taken on any of those guys. Pacquiao should learn from Mayweather. At the end of the day, Manny is a human being and age is catching up to him.

Pacquiao is either slipping in skills or he intentionally cruised to an easy victory against Vargas. Regardless of what it was, is Pacquiao still able to compete against boxing’s best welterweights? More importantly, should he?
Please comment below. We would love to hear your thoughts.

Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KO’s) defeated Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley (33-2-1, 13 KO’s) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas before a packed house of almost 15,000 fans, in their rubber match and captured Bradley’s WBO welterweight title. Pacquiao knocked down Timmy twice; once in round 7 and once in round 9. This was the first time that Bradley was knocked down twice by anyone and Manny is the only fighter to defeat Bradley (which he has done twice).

Personally, I thought it was an entertaining fight with some great tactical action but if you were looking for a killer Pacquiao knockout victory, this was not a fight for you to watch. Manny is clearly a very compassionate man and was not remotely willing to stop his foe. Pacquiao probably could have stopped Tim anytime in the fight but a combination of his compassion and his cautiousness since the fourth Marquez fight wouldn’t allow him to do so.

Bradley did a great job in round 8 by brawling with Manny and landing a bunch of shots on him. He may have even hurt the Filipino icon in that round but Manny smiled and welcomed it and even whispered something to Timmy after the exchange. Pacquiao was sporting a bruise below his left eye after that exchange. But the dominance of Tim was short-lived because his aggressiveness opened him up to clean shots by Manny. The knockdown in round 9 saw Bradley flip backwards on his way down. His eyes were clearly glazed and his legs were temporarily gone but it was Manny’s compassion that allowed Timmy to survive the fight.

Teddy Atlas, Timothy Bradley’s trainer, took the blame for Bradley’s loss. Sorry folks, but I don’t buy it. The trainer should not be blamed for the loss. Manny is an anomaly in the sport of boxing. His speed, power, and intelligence is beyond special; there is nothing that Bradley could have done to win this fight. Absolutely nothing!! Atlas is a very good trainer but unless he had the power to give Bradley some Divine intervention in the ring, no one is to blame. Manny is just too good in the ring.

After the fight, Max Kellerman asked Manny if he would be interested in a match up against Canelo Alvarez (a fight that Freddie Roach would love to train Manny for) or a rematch with Floyd Mayweather, but Pacquiao remained adamant about this being his last fight. He did state that he would think about it but for now, he would like to devote himself to the Filipino political system as a senator (if he wins the election).

Should Pacquiao face Canelo Alvarez? If so, when? How would the fight end? Would sports betting have Pacquiao as the favorite to win the fight? Please share in the comments section below. We would love to hear from you.

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez handed Miguel Cotto his fifth professional career loss. Canelo (46-1-1, 32 KO’s) defeated Cotto (40-5, 33 KO’s) via unanimous decision at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas via scores of 117-111, 119-109, 118-110.

The fight was MUCH CLOSER than what those scores reflected. 117-111 means that Cotto won only three rounds. 119-109 means that Cotto won only one round. 118-110 means that Cotto won only two rounds.

Really? Seriously? There is no way that Canelo won as many rounds as those scores reflected. Canelo may have won the fight by a score of 115-113 (which is what ESPN’s Dan Rafael scored it as), but none of the actual scores made any sense at all.

Clearly, Miguel was disgusted by those numbers and he left the ring immediately and headed to his dressing room, where his promoter, Jay Z, congratulated him on a great fight. Trainer, Freddie Roach, stated that the fight was much closer than those numbers and that Cotto fought tremendously and that his defense was unbelievable.

I couldn’t agree more.

Per Yahoo Sports: Cotto actually out-landed Alvarez, 629-484, but that was largely due to an inordinate number of jabs. Cotto threw 374 jabs to Alvarez’s 186, so he stockpiled the punches.

But Alvarez was raking him with lead right hands, uppercuts and hooks throughout the fight. CompuBox statistics had Alvarez connecting on 118 of 298 power shots, while Cotto landed just 75 of 255.

Even a 114-114 draw would have been okay but I would be more content with a 115-113 Canelo win. These scores should remind us all of the corruption that still exists in boxing today. It’s just sad.

But Canelo absolutely deserves credit for fighting a great fight and agreeing to face Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in 2016. That should be an incredible fight for as long as it lasts. Golovkin is the most terrifying middleweight in all of boxing right now and you can rest assure that judges won’t be needed on fight night. GGG will most likely easily knock out the red-headed Mexican when they meet. But the fight should be highly entertaining for as long as it goes.

As for Miguel Cotto, he didn’t look like a 35 year old man when he faced the 25 year old Canelo. Both men looked great and they entertained fans as everyone had expected. The 11,200 strong in the arena and the millions watching around the world were treated to elite-level boxing for 12 rounds. Therefore, the fans were the true winners.

If Miguel Cotto would like to continue to box, then the welterweight division or junior middleweight division might be the way to go. He is still a top notch fighter but he needs to face guys who aren’t much bigger than he is.

As for the other fights on the pay per view, here are the results (per Fightnews.com):

In a brutal fight, unbeaten super featherweight Francisco “El Bandido” Vargas (23-0-1, 17 KOs) dethroned WBC champion Takashi Miura (29-3-2, 22 KOs) with a ninth round TKO on Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino Events Center in Las Vegas. Vargas got off to a great start and rocked Miura in round one. Miura came back to knock down Vargas hard in round four. Miura staggered Vargas at the end of round eight. Vargas then dropped Miura early in round nine then viciously battered the champ. Referee Tony Weeks finally stopped it, although the game and hurt Miura was still fighting. Time was 1:31. Vargas was behind on two scorecards at the time of the stoppage.

Unbeaten former world super bantamweight champion, two-time Olympic gold medalist and P4P candidate Guillermo Rigondeaux (16-0, 10 KOs) pitched a one-sided ten round virtual shutout against Drian Francisco (28-4-1, 22 KOs). A dominating, tactical, very slow-paced performance from Rigo, that left the fans booing. Scores 100-90, 100-90 and somehow 97-93.

Featherweight Ronny Rios (26-1, 10 KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten former world title challenger Jayson Velez (23-1-1, 16 KOs). Velez got off to a good start. Rios was deducted a point for a low blow in round five, but took over the fight after that. Scores 97-92, 95-94, 96-93.

What were your thoughts on tonight’s main event? Was Canelo’s win really one sided in your opinion? Or was it a lot closer than the judges had it?

TRENDING FIGHTERS: Miguel Cotto, Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya, Shane Mosley

HBO boxing, the top boxing league out there, has done a HORRIBLE job of promoting the second top fight in pro boxing! The first one was obviously Mayweather vs Pacquiao in May of this year. And that was promoted beautifully. But the promotion for Cotto vs Canelo has been abysmal and that’s being nice.

Buffalo Wild Wings, which is known for showing combat sports on the regular, isn’t showing the fight. Dave and Busters near me isn’t showing the fight. Sure, Hooters is showing it, but most other places that I called aren’t even aware of it, let alone, showing it.

How can a fight of this magnitude be down played so horribly?

Combat sports generate lots of money and Cotto and Canelo are both cash cows. Each man has his own legion of fans and with both men facing each other, this should be a pay per view that generates over 2 million buys. Jay Z, who promotes Miguel Cotto via his Roc Nation banner, and Oscar De La Hoya, who promotes Saul “Canelo” Alvarez via his Golden Boy Promotions, have clearly been busy with other things. And that’s sad because they are leaving millions of dollars at the table.

There are internet trolls everywhere who put boxing down and insist that mixed martial arts are the next big thing and that boxing is dead. We are starting to see why they may have a point.

Without hesitation, Dana White, the president of UFC, would have promoted the hell out of Cotto vs Canelo if he was a boxing promoter. Bob Arum, the promoter of Top Rank (which promotes Manny Pacquiao), would most likely have promoted this fight a lot better as well.

We are located in New York City. This city has everything in excess and nothing is hard to find. We are curious to know how the fight promotion is by your area.

Will you be ordering the fight? What are your thoughts on the promotion of this fight? Besides the 24/7 show that HBO boxing did, was there anything else that you felt they did well for this fight?

Please comment below. We would love to get some input from boxing fans in other places.

The fee for this fight was absurd to me and I prefer to keep the money in my account. I don’t need to pay attention to Oscar De La Hoya’s opinion. He should take care of his own business. And I will take care of mine. I don’t stick my nose in Oscar’s business. The organizations wants four champions in every division just to earn a percentage from everybody. Then we have to pay for their mistakes. This is not fair to me. The WBC told me my offer was not reasonable to them. They told me I was not going to be the champion anymore. I don’t need their belt. I have enough belts in my house and with the money I saved, I can buy any belt I want. I can be the champion of whatever I want in my house.”

HBO Boxing will present a solid main event this Saturday night, Nov 21st, from Las Vegas where Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto will take on Mexico’s Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Despite the fact that Canelo is a 3:1 favorite to win on most sports betting sites, Freddie Roach, the trainer of Cotto, believes that his fighter will prevail on Saturday night.

Is that what makes Freddie insane? No!!!!!!

For those who follow the sport of boxing and most notably, the career of Alvarez, you will have to admit that Vegas is the city of screw jobs and when Canelo is a favorite to win, the judges will make sure that he will win. If they award the decision to the underdog, then the casinos will have huge sums of money to pay out. The performance of the fighters won’t matter.

Just look at the fight between Erislandy Lara and Canelo Alvarez from July 2014. Without a doubt, Lara should have won that fight. We scored the fight 10 rounds to 2 or maybe 9 rounds to 3 in favor or Erislandy and two of the three judges gave it to Canelo. It was a very low key robbery in boxing; low key because Erislandy Lara is not a household name and he doesn’t have the loud backing that a top name fighter would have had in such a situation. But it was one of the biggest robberies in boxing from a clear black and white point of view.

So how is Freddie Roach a potential genius? He’s clearly insane, right?

Well, Roach is a master of game plans and he studies opponents very carefully. Freddie has rejuvenated Miguel Cotto in ways that most fighters can only dream of. Cotto destroyed Sergio Martinez in June 2014 via round 10 stoppage to become the lineal WBC middleweight champion. We were convinced that Sergio was going to be too big and too skilled for a fading Cotto. The exact opposite was true.

As a boxing writer and a boxing fan, most experts know that this is a pick ‘em fight. Freddie Roach must know this too.

Roach is more than just a good speaker. The man is a master planner and you can count on Cotto surprising the world with his ever-evolving skill set this Saturday night against Alvarez.

Whether or not Cotto wins is another story. Combat sports are known for screw job decisions, therefore, this Saturday may not be an exception.

Let’s judge Freddie Roach after the fight has ended. By then, we should know whether he’s a genius or a senile old man or possibly even both.

A boxing event unlike any in the history of combat sports will take place on May 02, 2015. Floyd Mayweather, Jr. will face off against Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao in a welterweight showdown that the world has been waiting for since December 2008.

For those who have been following Showtime boxing and HBO boxing and their coverage of both pro boxers, anyone can see that Floyd has been adding a lot of muscle on for this fight. He’s been weight training a lot and he’s been chopping wood as well. That’s packed on quite a bit of muscle on his 5’8” frame but it’s sure to slow him down. More muscle equals less speed.

It was Juan Manuel Marquez that used that strategy for his December 2012 showdown with Pacquiao. It was the fourth time that the Mexican was facing his Filipino rival and he finally landed the perfectly timed right hand to Manny’s chin that saw him finally defeat his rival, by knockout nonetheless.

Floyd is trying to follow in Marquez’ footsteps, no doubt.

There’s a small problem here; Marquez was always willing to engage with Manny and he paid dearly for doing so. Before Marquez landed that perfectly timed right hand, Pac Man was beating the hell out of Juan. The Filipino was on his way to maybe even stopping his rival but he got overzealous and went in for the kill and hot knocked out by a perfect right hand.

Freddie Roach has trained Pacquiao to never fall for that again!

Mayweather knows full well that he needs his right hand in this fight. He will need serious power for this fight. But what if Manny Pacquiao can avoid Mayweather’s right hand all night? Then what?

Look for Floyd to start off very fast and active in round one. If Floyd can time Manny and land his right hand at will, then he might be able to win via decision. But Pacquiao and his trainer, Freddie Roach, have a plan A, B, C, D, and E for what Floyd brings to the fight.

Mayweather knows that he’s the bigger man and that he may have no choice but to use Marquez’ strategy against Manny. There is no doubt that his new physique is an indication of what Floyd has up his sleeve. But will he succeed?

Trending Fighters: Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather, Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto
