David Haye To Corner Fres Oquendo In Boxing Event Against Ruslan Chagaev In Grozny, Russia
Ruslan Chagaev and Fres Oquendo will face off against one another in Grozny, Russia on July 06, 2014 in a boxing event before an expected crowd of 30,000 fans for the WBA heavyweight title. Naturally, the crowd will be partisan and almost 100% of them will be cheering the 35 year old hometown favorite, Ruslan Chagaev.
But Fres Oquendo will not be without any supporters; former world champion, David Haye, will be in the corner of Fres Oquendo. Haye is an outstanding heavyweight who would most likely defeat either man easily if he were to face them. Having the Englishman in Oquendo’s corner gives him an advantage against Chagaev in that Haye can give Oquendo some great advice about the fight and it can be a mental advantage for Oquendo.
Chagaev might just feel a little uncomfortable and vulnerable knowing that David Haye is in his opponent’s corner. The fact that Chagaev may have to face Haye in the future might also distract his concentration during his fight with the Fres.
Regardless of mind games and who’s in the corner of who, one thing is for sure: Grozny has made this mediocre boxing event into a huge event regardless of the fact that both boxers are no longer elite level fighters. They are both far removed from a shot against world champion, Wladimir Klitchko.
Since heavyweight boxing has been on a decline for many years, it would be great for all boxing sites and boxing fans alike to still support this event. If we want to support the sport of boxing, then we, as fans, should find a way to tune in and cover this fight.
