Another Robbery In Boxing: Showtime Boxing Pay Per View Controversy As Canelo Defeats Lara

Canelo-Alvarez-vs-Erislandy-Lara

In a prediction that we made hours before the fight, Lara would get robbed against Canelo if the fight turned out to be somewhat close.  Those betting boxing know that Canelo was almost a 2:1 favorite just before the fight and the Vegas casinos were not about the shell out loads of money to Lara betters.  Despite the fact that the Cuban clearly won at least 8 out of the 12 rounds, Alvarez somehow won via split decision by scores of 115-113, 117-111, and 113-115.

Erislandy Lara made the Showtime boxing event main event almost an exhibition fight as he had Canelo swinging wildly and missing most of his shots.  Sure, Canelo Alvarez did a great job working Lara’s torso with body shots but they were too few and far between.

Pro boxing already has a black eye from years of bad decisions and tonight’s decision did nothing but add fuel to that already dark flame!!

Erislandy Lara clearly landed the more cleaner shots, he out jabbed Canelo, and Lara’s footwork was superb.  Canelo did a great job by working the body but he couldn’t land enough shots in the fight to slow Erislandy enough.  The most effective accomplishment that Canelo had tonight was opening up a cut on Lara’s right eye with an uppercut.

At the end of the fight, Lara raised both of his hands as if to state that he won and that he had arrived, while Canelo went back to his corner with a defeated look on his face.  However, two out of the three judges had a different idea and they awarded Alvarez the split decision.  Judge Levi Martinez scored the fight 117-111 in Canelo’s favor.  Without a doubt, Martinez’ scorecard was filled out even before the fight ended.  How in the world did he have Lara winning just 3 out of the 12 rounds?

Shame on you, Levi Martinez!! And shame on you, Showtime Boxing, for even spending time after the boxing event trying to justify that robbery.

Here’s hoping for an immediate rematch.  Those who are into betting boxing can bet their bottom dollar that Canelo and his people want no part of that rematch.
